Women’s FA Cup tie today as Sunderland West End Ladies welcomed Penrith AFC Ladies. With Penrith playing a division above West End, the home side went into the game as underdogs, but you certainly wouldn’t have known it from their performance. West End took the game to their visitors and went into half-time 3–2 ahead.

Penrith showed their quality throughout, battling hard to get back on level terms, while West End's Summer Sawyer was the busier of the two goalkeepers and produced some brave and important saves to keep her side ahead. Eventually Penrith found the equaliser and continued to press, with the winner coming late in the game when a well-delivered corner found a Penrith player unmarked in the box to head home and make it 4–3. West End refused to give up and fought right until the final whistle, even creating a late opportunity to take the tie level. They may be out of the FA Cup, but they should be extremely proud of their performance against higher-division opposition.
