A difficult result for Sunderland West End Ladies on Sunday afternoon, but one that certainly didn't reflect the effort and commitment shown on the pitch. West End took the lead and competed well throughout against a strong North Shields Athletic Women side, whose larger squad allowed them to introduce fresh legs at key moments. West End's goalkeeper produced some fantastic saves to keep the opposition at bay, while at the other end West End created chances of their own and were unlucky not to add another couple of goals.

Unfortunately, the game was overshadowed by another injury for West End early in the match following an awkward fall during a challenge. It appeared to be a potentially serious shoulder injury, although the extent wasn't known at the time. Wishing Amalia a very speedy recovery and hopefully it's nothing too serious.

North Shields eventually made their chances count and deserved credit for battling back into the game, but despite being short on squad depth, the West End players available gave 100% right to the final whistle. A strong, committed performance even if the result didn't go their way.
